A Delta Air Lines Flight 1893 wing flap partially broke mid-flight to Texas. Delta Air Lines confirmed that “a portion of the left wing’s flap was observed to be out of place.”
In the viral video, an outer part of the left wing of the Delta flight can be seen flapping in the wind as the aircraft.

In a worrisome event, a part of a Delta Airlines’ wing broke off mid-flight during its journey from Orlando, Florida, to Austin, Texas. The video of the damaged wing flap was recorded by a passenger, which has triggered safety concerns on social media. The plane was carrying 62 passengers and six crew members.
According to USA Today, passenger Shanila Arif was aboard Delta Flight 1893, which departed from Orlando on August 19, for Austin. Arif shared that she noticed a portion of the aircraft’s wing appeared to be “detached” ¹while the plane was mid-air.
“During the flight, while the plane was at an altitude of approximately 12,000 feet, we noticed that a part of the wing had broken and was visibly detached,” Arif told local news outlet KXAN.
In the viral video, an outer part of the left wing can be seen flapping in the wind as the aircraft. Despite the visible damage, passengers in the cabin appeared calm. Arif added that the piece seemed to separate even more upon landing.
“This is a serious safety event,” she said.

Reacting to the video, a user wrote, “Time for all carriers to up their game on aircraft maintenance. @delta is a disgrace. They still fly 45-year-old 767s all across the country and the world. These planes needed to be put to pasture over 10 years ago hjtbhacent been because of #DeltaAirlines greed. Get new planes and stop trying to hold the ancient aircraft you have together with airplane tape so the cracks don’t get worst. Yeah we’ve all see this,” a user wrote.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in an official statement, shared that no injuries were reported. The agency confirmed, “Aircraft landed and post-flight inspection revealed the trailing edge of the left-wing flap was bent upward,” the report said.
Delta issued a statement confirming the plane landed safely and was immediately removed from service for maintenance,” PEOPLE reported.
“It was observed that a portion of the left wing’s flap was not in place. We apologize to our customers for their experience, as nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers,” the airline said.
The Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 wing incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of strict aircraft maintenance and safety protocols. While the flight was able to land safely without injuries, the scare has raised fresh concerns about aging aircraft, mechanical inspections, and airline safety standards. The FAA and airline authorities are now expected to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future. For passengers, the incident highlights both the risks and the effectiveness of emergency procedures in modern aviation.
